»Lange vor jedem "richtigen" Heim-Computer gab es den "Logikus" von Kosmos zu kaufen: Das unscheinbare Gerät verfügte über ganze 10 (!) Lämpchen, ebensoviele Schaltschieber sowie ein "Programmierfeld" aus vielen kleinen Löchern mit darunterliegenden Kontaktfedern. Mittels Drahtbrücken konnte man die per Schaltschieber zu verbindenden Kontaktfedern zu "intelligenten" Logik-Schaltungen zusammenstöpseln«

Bewegte Kindheit: Tretautos

Nach unten treten und nach oben buckeln kann man im Landesmuseum Mannheim im Rahmen der Ausstellung "Bewegte Kindheit - Tretautomobile für kleine Leute" vom 3. Mai bis 7. September: »Waren die frühen Kinderautos noch keinem bestimmten Vorbild nachempfunden, so überboten sich nun die Hersteller in Detailtreue. Die Fahrzeuge wurden mit raffiniertem Antrieb, elektrischer Beleuchtung und später auch mit Batteriemotor versehen. Bis heute erfreut sich das mobile Kinderspielzeug ungebrochener Beliebtheit. Besonders Rennwagen waren bei den Kindern sehr gefragt.« (Wieso nur bei Kindern...??)

Die Ausstellungsstücke wurden aus dem Fundus des Deutschen Technikmuseums Berlin ausgewählt, bestehend aus Tretautomobilen, Rollern, Kinderfahrrädern, Kinderwagen, Schaukel- und Steckenpferden. [via IT&W]

In organizing the exhibit, Harris focused on how artists, writers, and publishers in the U.S., Russia, France, and England have responded to transportation's ongoing transformation.

With the discoveries by Robert Goddard and Hermann Oberth of liquid-fueled rockets in the 1930's and the use of V-2 rockets in the 1940's, rocket travel went from science fiction to science fact in the public's mind. In post-World War II America anything seemed possible, even going to the Moon! There appeared in 1949, a book The Conquest of Space , which led to a new trend in children's books. These books outlined the future the children of the "baby boom" would grow up in, the world of space (example). The illustrations in these books show facts (as they were known) mixed in with the fantasy of space flight and led many of the readers of these books to "dream of space".
